Default Eotn and The Cipher quests

So, I'm trying to get two skills done and there both in Eye of the north!

So... I'm trying to do the least amount of work done in eye of the north to get these 2 skills..

I'm trying to get pain inverter and currently I'm in Tarnished Haven.

I have accepted the first Cipher quest and it says to get out of tarnished haven and use the divination to find the facet and kill it!

I have gone around the whole map req. and the divination bar has not turned red at all. I'm starting to think there must be a pre-quest req. to finish the cipher quests? is this true er no?

Step 1: Complete this quest:
The Cipher of Melandru
(you can't do step 2 until you complete step 1)

Step 2 - Complete these four quests:
The Cipher of Balthazar
The Cipher of Dwayna
The Cipher of Grenth
The Cipher of Lyssa
(you can't do step 3 until you complete all four quests in step 2)

Step 3: Complete this quest:
The Cipher of Kormir

When the quests are in your quest log, you will see the "diviniation bar" on your screen. If you see the divination bar, then you can complete that quest. NO further requirements are needed... if the bar's there, then you're on the quest.

If the bar is on your screen, and it hasn't filled up, then you're not in the right spot. If the bar's there, it will fill up when you get close.. just keep looking!

wiki.guildwars.com has very good walkthroughs for all missions/quests

from in game hit f10 and click on the mission (or type in search bar)

Definitely consult the wiki -- there are maps with possible spawn points. Some zones have a spawn point really close to the outpost, and the bar will fill up a lot as soon as you step outside if you get a close spawn. If it doesn't, just rezone until you get a "good" spawn.

The skills you are after gets increased efficiency when you get more points in that title track. So doing as little as possible just to obtain them may not be enough. Perhaps the group you are trying to get into wants you to show your title track also ?!?!

Regarding locating the facets: A good strategy is to fight your way to the center of the map. From there, you'll almost always get a response on the tracker, and then just change directions and watch how fast the tracker moves.

Regarding UW groups: there's a lot of elitism going on. UW is hard, everyone wants to do it, and you're rather obviously new to it. I'd advise you to first learn your own role/task before you try to join a group.

P.S.: apparently, these days groups demand you show them UW summoning stones as proof that you've done it before before they'll let you into the group...

Small off topic note as well.

If you ever plan on farming Norn rep and maxing your title, the final quest in this chain is a great way to do it. The Path to Revelations.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Path_to_revelations

I'd suggest after you get your PI skill, to hold onto this quest and not complete it yet if you ever plan on working on maxing titles. This quest is a great way to max your Norn title.

Consider maxing Norn title before finally completing quest.
But it's up to you. I mistakenly completed it and then my friend told me about this afterwards. >.<

But OT: Like everyone said, check the wiki for each Cipher quest. There is alot of hints and tricks to getting to them faster.

This.

For example: there are a bunch of people in my guild right now that want to come as mesmer spikers on DoA runs (modified trenchway). Most of these people made their mesmers in the past month and have been pushing through NF and eotn to get to gate of anguish and get the rep skills.

But they're mostly getting runs through eotn, and doing ONLY the cipher quests to get PI and AoS, and then doing JUST the norn quests to get "BUH!" I keep telling them they need to finish eotn on those toons and turn in at least one book for rep, and do some dungeons, etc.

It takes about 9 seconds for a smothering tendril to attack twice. Good luck killing one with a PI that only lasts 7.
